Sally Egan was born and educated in Leeds. She read music at Cambridge University and studied singing in Paris with Maria-Grazia Dilluvio and in London with Lillian Watson. Sally has sung opera and oratorio roles all over the world under the baton of many leading conductors including Claudio Abbado, Daniel Harding, William Christie, Elgar Howarth, Roy Goodman and Pierre Boulez. Sally taught singing to the choristers of Westminster Cathedral and Westminster Abbey, worked as an Advanced Practitioner for Voices Foundation and as Choral Director of the Leeds Cathedral Choir School project in Chapeltown 2009 – 2022. Other projects include Opera North In Harmony, Snape Maltings Friday Afternoons, No Horizons and Billingham International Folklore Festival. In 2019 Sally was made an Honorary Fellow of Leeds Conservatoire and in 2022 she was appointed Head of Creative Learning & Engagement of the Leeds International Piano Competition.
